09/03/09 (Thursday) at North Carolina State Raleigh, N.C. W, 7-3 Brian Maddox had a short touchdown run while Stephen Garcia completed a key third-down pass in the final minutes to help South Carolina beat North Carolina State 7-3.
09/12/09 at Georgia # Athens, Ga. L, 41-37 Rennie Curran broke up a fourth-down pass at the goal line with 22 seconds remaining, and No. 21 Georgia held off South Carolina 41-37. The nearly four-hour contest wasn't decided until Curran, a linebacker, batted down Stephen Garcia's final throw on fourth-and-4 at the Georgia 7.
09/19/09 vs. Florida Atlantic Columbia, S.C. W, 38-16 Brian Maddox scored three touchdowns and Jarvis Giles ran 11 times for 113 yards to help South Carolina to a 38-16 win.
09/24/09 (Thursday) vs. #4 Mississippi # Columbia, S.C. W, 16-10 South Carolina had been 1-31 all-time against Top 5 foes, but left Williams-Brice Stadium with the biggest win of coach Steve Spurrier's five seasons. Spencer Lanning kicked three field goals and fullback Patrick DiMarco a key 2-yard TD catch for the Gamecocks.
10/03/09 vs. South Carolina State Columbia, S.C. W, 38-14 Stephen Garcia threw two touchdowns, rushed for another score and South Carolina matched its best start of Steve Spurrier's five seasons with a 38-14 victory over South Carolina State.
10/10/09 vs. Kentucky # Columbia, S.C. W, 28-26. Stephen Garcia threw for three touchdowns and ran for another and No. 25 South Carolina stopped a potential tying two-point conversion in the fourth quarter to beat Kentucky.
10/17/09 at Alabama # Tuscaloosa, Ala. L, 20-6 Garcia wound up 20 of 46 for 214 yards after completing just 4 of 18 passes in the first half. South Carolina managed just 64 yards rushing for the game.
10/24/09 vs. Vanderbilt # Columbia, S.C. W, 14-10 Stephen Garcia threw two touchdown passes and No. 23 South Carolina barely ended Vanderbilt's two-game series win streak.
10/31/09 at Tennessee # Knoxville, Tenn. L, 31-13 South Carolina (6-3, 3-3) fumbled on its first two drives on a rainy night, having entered the game with only five for the season. Tennessee, hampered by turnovers early in the season, did not give the ball away for the first time this season.
11/07/09 at Arkansas # Fayetteville, Ark. L, 33-16 South Carolina succumbs to 23 unanswered Razorback points.
11/14/09 vs. Florida # Columbia, S.C. L, 24-14 Down 17-14, South Carolina drove 48 yards to Florida's 22. But defensive lineman Justin Trattou intercepted Stephen Garcia and brought it back 53 yards. Tebow cashed in the touchdown four plays later, a 1-yard burst that was the 53rd of his SEC career.
11/28/09 vs. Clemson Columbia, S.C. W, 34-17 Garcia throws three TDs, Gamecocks shut down Clemson rushing attack.
SEC bowl tie-ins
December 27, 2009 Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl Nashville, TN Clemson 21, Kentucky 13 Clemson snapped its 3-bowl losing streak, and ended Kentucky's 3-bowl winning streak, with a 21-13 win at Nashville's Music City Bowl.
December 28, 2009 AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl Shreveport, LA Georgia 44, Texas A&M 20 Georgia closed out the Independence Bowl on a 30-6 run to defeat Texas A&M 44-20. The game was tied at 14-all in the 3rd quarter before the Bulldogs took over the game with 30 straight points.
December 31, 2009 Chick-Fil-A Bowl Georgia Dome Virgina Tech 37, Tennessee 14 Redshirt freshman running back Ryan Williams ran for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns as Virginia Tech rolled over Tennessee 37-14 in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. Virginia Tech QB Tyrod Taylor added 201 yards on 10-of-17 passing.
January 1, 2010 Outback Bowl Tampa, Fla. Auburn 38, Northwestern 35 (OT) Northwestern twice overcame 14-point deficits and forced overtime before failing to win a bowl game for the first time since the 1949 Rose Bowl (end of 1948 season).
January 1, 2010 Capital One Bowl Orlando, Fla. Penn State 19, LSU 17 Joe Paterno notched his 394th win (394-128-3) with a 19-17 last-second victory over LSU in the Capital One Bowl.
January 1, 2010 Allstate Sugar Bowl New Orleans Florida 51, Cincinnati 24 In Tim Tebow's final game, he passed for 482 yards and 3 TD's, and ran for 51 yards and a score.
January 2, 2010 AT&T Cotton Bowl Arlington, TX Ole Miss. 21, OK State 7 Two touchdowns in the final 4:03 of the game broke a 7-7 tie and lifted Ole Miss past Oklahoma State in the Cotton Bowl.
January 2, 2010 PapaJohns.com Bowl Birmingham, AL UConn 20, South Carolina 7 Andre Dixon rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown as UConn won a defensive battle in the PapaJohns.com Bowl.
January 2, 2010 AutoZone Liberty Bowl Memphis, TN Arkansas 20, East Carolina 17 (OT) Alex Tejada's 37-yard field goal in overtime gave Arkansas a 20-17 Liberty Bowl win over East Carolina. Ben Hartman missed on two game-winning opportunities for the Pirates in regulation and missed again in overtime.
January 7, 2010 Citi BCS National Championship Game Pasadena, CA Alabama 37, Texas 21 Heisman Trophy-winning running back Mark Ingram ran for 116 yards and 2 scores, and Trent Richardson added 109 yards and 2 scores, as Alabama knocked off Texas 37-21 to give the SEC its fourth straight BCS Championship.
